Observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 26 June, 2019

Jun 27, 2019

Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) observed “International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” on June 26, 2019. Theme of the Day was “Health for justice – Justice for health”. PFSA receives samples of various narcotics and illicit substance (hash, cannabis, heroin, ICE, opium etc.) for forensic analysis. The theme was strengthened by incinerating nearly 2100 kilograms of illicit substances instead of open burning in a bid to safe guard against environmental pollution. Furthermore, ashes, after incineration, were collected and discarded as per procedures described by United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This environment friendly activity (incineration) is first of its type in Pakistan whereas open burning is common among other law enforcement agencies.

PFSA organized an awareness walk and then disposed off the ashes as per International standards. With kind support of Dr. Mohammad Ashraf Tahir (Director General), this whole planned activity was led by Dr. Muhammad Amjad (Additional Director General-Forensics) in collaboration with Home Department Government of the Punjab, Legal section PFSA, Health Department Government of the Punjab and Environment Protection Agency.
